Hands-on Valentine’s Day Literacy Activities
1. Valentine’s Day Craftivity
Little learners LOVE to celebrate with crowns and this Differentiated Valentine’s Day Craftivity can be adapted to suit your little learners’ interests. Decorate crowns, write cards, or wear wristbands!
The cut-and-glue activity can be made simple or difficult by using the templates of your choice. Build a craft from scratch by cutting and assembling all the pieces, or cut and glue a ready-to-use craft on your crown or cards.
There are multiple crafts to choose from: layered heart, bear, bee, and heart flowers—all come in colored + b/w versions.
Use one for each day to extend the celebration throughout the week, or allow your learners to choose their favorite one!

Then add writing by using the blank card or letter templates to transform this into a writing activity.
2. Valentine’s Day Write the Room Games
Give your kids a fun reason to move around the classroom with these cute Valentine’s Day-themed Vocabulary Write the Room and Letter Recognition Write the Room Games.
Your classroom will transform into a literacy treasure hunt, where your preschool, kindergarten, or lower primary students search for hidden cards. Each card contains a word (with a picture cue) or a letter to build their word recognition or vocabulary-building skills. Your super-engaged kids will dash from one corner to another, jotting down whatever they find onto their answer sheets until they’re done!
3. Valentine’s Themed Scissor Skills Practice
Cutting Practice is my favorite zero-prep activity to always have at hand. Add Valentine’s themed Cutting Practice as your Feb. plans for a quick ! Kids color, cut, and glue their shapes to craft sticks or cards.
Extend the cutting practice to make it a writing activity. Kids glue their cutting shapes on top of their pages as toppers and write about the shape on that page, or simply practice spelling out the picture word on the top. What a great way to not only build our children’s fine motor skills but also boost their vocabulary! For safety, always use child-friendly scissors and supervise closely!
By using themed hands-on activities, we not only engage our kids in play-based learning, but they also get a chance to polish their literacy and fine motor skills at the same time.
May your Valentine’s Day celebrations be filled with lots of learning and fun!
