Around 30% of the world has their nose on fire (aka nasal allergy!).
Meanwhile,
In my part of the world, I’m all set in my warrior mode to conquer the world, when right in the middle of the most important things, comes in…. an achoo!!!!!!!!!.

I have nasal allergy too and only those who suffer know what it means to have a nose burning like the stove with the complementary itchy eyes, nonstop achoo-ing, (the force of which can wets your pants, seriously) plus you feel as if a bit of your brain matter has spilled out with every sneeze jerk, pluuuussss the ever running faucet of nose dripping…ewww!

Seriously, I can explode!
During such days, I’m practically good for nothing.
But…
Just recently I’ve decided to take matters into my hand.
Up until I can get an allergy test diagnosis and follow up with the suitable allergy shots to remedy my allergy problem, I’ve made a plan to make myself as comfortable as I can when the allergy strikes.
If you’re short on time or too sick to wait, just pick the 4th tip.
The most important thing I’ve done is: to not just sit & suffer but to get up and do something about it.
I did try looking up Pinterest but what it gave me was tips like pressing some pressure points on the face, which I’m sure would be helpful, if only I could actually locate them, I’ve pressed my whole face… if it weren’t for God’s mercy, my face would look like SpongeBob!
I also find it very painful to pour saline water into my nostril using a neti pot which is otherwise a popular remedy.
So here’s a list of easy remedies that do help me survive those painful days.
In case you’re short on time, just watch the quick video summary.
1. Steam
I had always read and been told everywhere that steam helps, but somehow I believed it to be too simple to remedy such a painful condition. The key I missed out was- do it THREE TIMES a day. I’m too impatient to let things take their time. I would quickly give up if something doesn’t work the first time. But once I actually did it THREE TIMES, it helped! It’s the most soothing thing you can do to calm your breathing.
2. Essential Oils
If luck is with you, breathing in diffused peppermint oil can open a nasal blockage right away. Diffusing Peppermint, Lavender, and Lemon essential oils is a relatively quicker remedy which relieves much of the clogging. Here’s a Dr. talking about the benefits of each oil.
Super lazy but useful tip: Sometimes I just rub a drop of peppermint oil into my palms and breathe it in.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has a verrry long history of use and healing. Tradition says it is one of those few things all prophets have used during their times. Egyptians, Greek, Ancient Chinese and our grandmas too used it! For allergy, take a teaspoon of organic acv (or if you can’t find it in stores around you, make organic acv yourself) mixed in a glass of water three times daily. You won’t go wrong here with all the history supporting you!
4. Yoga
Yoga. Yes yoga, how could I forget to mention it as the first thing? I found a pin on Pinterest a long time back and printed it out for my wall. Doing the poses given below instantly helps my nasal passages open up. While I follow a morning yoga routine, I would strongly urge you to try out at least once to see if it helps you. (Excuse the ugliness of the photo below!)

Doing each of these poses in particular, for 40 seconds, with a 20 seconds gap between each, helped my nose clear up 60% on the spot! All of it takes 20 minutes in total.

5. Cinnamon + Honey
Why don’t people give spices and herbs the same place as regular medicines? I mean look at this: a whooooole continent in the East runs on these; wars and colonization happened for spices. The most ancient medical system in the world happens to be a treatment done with spices (i.e. Ayurveda).
Well, I do use lots of spices for home remedies. Cinnamon helps with various kinds of respiratory problems and particularly for my nasal allergy. I keep ground cinnamon right next to a jar of honey and take a tablespoon of this mixture three times. Helps quite a bit. I don’t know why science is still not sure about honey as a good remedy for nasal allergies but I take it as a miracle food for the number of times it is mentioned across Holy Scriptures of various religions. (e.g. Talmud, Bible, Quran, Hindu Scriptures etc)
6. Black Seeds

Black seed is sometimes called the ‘cure all’. Its oil has antihistamine properties. That is the thing you should be looking for. Because histamine is the irritation-causing chemical secreted when you have an allergy.
Take a pinch of black seeds and chew on them well, followed by a glass of water first thing in the morning, daily. I keep a packet of black seeds in a section of my pen holder as I sit on my desk every day and a note right in front of me which says, ‘eat a pinch right now!’. Only takes 2 seconds.
7. Soup/Broth
Take soup or broth whichever is available. The hot soup will thin the sticky mucus inside you, means it will loosen the congestion in your nasal passage.

8. Ginger Tea
I also take ginger tea. I just boil a cup of water with a 1-inch piece of ginger and leave the piece to steep for a while. Doesn’t give instant relief but it heals the inflammation when taken a few times.
9. Sleep

Sleep your allergy symptoms off! Most of the times, when I wake up, the allergy is gone. Weird, yes, but helps me, so worth sharing with you.
The Important Thing About Nose Allergy Remedies
While doing all these things may not de-root your nasal allergy, again and again, I have experienced they DO reduce my own pain ALOT which is not a bad thing if you want fast relief from the painful symptoms.
Also, I plan on making the extra effort to continue using as many of them as convenient, REGULARLY for longer periods of time which will reduce the allergy triggers since the remedies are all natural.
On the contrary, you don’t want to take OTCs every time a nasal allergy hits! They desensitize the nose against their effect in the longer run.
If your condition is severe, please visit the doctor. These tips are natural and harmless unless you are allergic to anything mentioned. Also, please stay away from anything like food and particular places that trigger your allergy.
One more thing, if you are stressed, you’re more prone to these illnesses.
