The ideas can be endless. You can keep the theme broad or be specific.
How to Play A Scavenger Hunt with Kids
First, make a list of items you want your kids to hunt. Keep the list related to one theme and space for ease. For example, have them look for all items which are related to the fall theme and they can find all of those objects in the house or in the playground, etc. (unless like us, you are helping them travel to find the items they can cross off of their list.)

Then, explain the game to them. You can keep it as easy or difficult as your child can handle.
Hand them the list and ask them to search for all items on that list within the space you will allot for this game.
Once they find any item, they can cross it off.
Play this game indoor or outdoor depending on where the items on your list will be found.
Add a competition or set a timer if the kids are older and more than one.
We drove to a nearby scenic place for this color scavenger hunt where we knew our son could find most of the objects he will be looking for.
Ask questions or give clues that guide your child closer to the object they are looking for when you find them stuck.
What If You Can’t Find An Object On Your Scavenger Hunt Items List
My son was super motivated to cross off everything but we couldn’t find a grey owl and a purple leaf and it was getting dark.
So we decided we will make crafts for both of these so we can cross them off our list.
How smart is that!
Now, let’s see what all we found:

Our Fall Scavenger Hunt Pictures
We started with a two-colored tree and my son found it as soon as he jumped out of the car.
We also found a tree stump and my son pretended he is the rest of the tree.

Colored leaves were the easiest. We found yellow, green, brown, orange easily. Only the purple one was left.
We went to a corn field.

To find a yellow corn.

We only found grey clouds approaching when it was time to go home.

And the orange pumpkin (which was not so orange. My son was mad.)

The brown donuts made him happy though. He got to cross off the item plus enjoy a treat.
