How To Make A Cardboard Puppet With Circle Shapes

If your preschooler is bored at home and you’re looking for simple and easy art and craft activities to keep him busy, here’s a simple cardboard puppet craft we did.

Double awesome if your child is an animal lover like mine.

This activity is so simple you probably have everything in the house already.

Kids will also learn to create art using simple geometric shapes.

Let’s begin.

Materials Required

A piece of cardboard. We used the top flap of a box.

Circle shaped lids of 4 different sizes for tracing round shapes. (You can use, plates, glasses, cream lids, etc)

Scissors (Usage requires adult supervision)

Pencil or marker for tracing the shapes

Coloring paint, markers, glitter, or anything else you have at hand to decorate the bear puppet

How To Make A Cardboard Puppet Bear

Take a spare cardboard piece.

Collect 4 different sizes of circular lids or caps for tracing circular shapes for the face, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and cheeks.

You can use a plate for the face, a glass for tracing the ears and cheeks circles, a glue stick cap for the eyes and nose and any lid smaller than the plate for tracing the mouth shape.

Trace circle shapes using the lids as follows on your piece of cardboard:

One large circle shape for the face
One circle that is smaller than the face, but bigger than the rest of the circles
Four small circles for ears and cheeks
Three smallest circles for eyes and a nose.

Cut them out.

Glue them together as shown in the image below.

Let your child decorate it the way they like using colors, glitter or even beads. The possibilities are endless.

You can put a spoon, a stick or a longer piece of the remaining cardboard behind the puppet face to make a handle so your child can hold onto it while playing.

We put a long strip from the remaining cardboard to make a handle.
