Brain dumping is when you put everything you have been holding in your mind out on a paper or in digital space.
Writing down things that have been occupying space in your head cuts down brain clutter. (Plus increases the chances of getting tasks done by 40+ % according to science. If you still don’t plan in writing please please please give it a try once this week. And then you be the judge if you want to keep this habit or not.)
When you already don’t have much time, I know brain dumping seems like just one more thing to do. But 10 minutes’ long investment will take all the weight off of your mind I promise.
Use this brain dump sheet and jot down every single thing you want to do next week.
BRAIN DUMP WORKSHEET
Step 1: Click the yellow button below to download your brain dump sheet.
Step 2: Print out one sheet (whichever you like, there are no extra marks for overthinking or overdoing. =P).
Step 3: Pour out every. single. thing. you want/wish/have to get done this coming week.
With a brain dump we can plan and organize our week and set priorities in an effort to reduce the stress associated with our mom life daily workload.
Here’s mine in case you want to see.
How to use your brain dumping sheet:
Now, let me start by disclosing one thing if you did the previous task: if you think you can accomplish all of those tasks from your dump list, you’re kind of a superhuman!
For the rest of us, who are distracted from every direction each day as we struggle to survive and get stuff done, today I want you to re-look at that list of tasks and do the following:
- Combine as many tasks as can possibly be done (e.g. exercise + audio training/lecture/sermon)
- Cut anything that CAN easily be skipped (move to… umm… maybe next week?)
- Delegate what CAN be delegated
- Pick just three, the uber-important ones and set them as your goal for the week. We will do the others too but unless you set a boundary, no matter how close you come to completing tasks from your dump list, you’ll always feel unaccomplished because something was still left.
Then put everything that remains behind onto your calendar, planner or whatever you use to plan.
A brain dumping session is the first step for organizing your life. If you try it, let me know how it goes.
