How do you make a straw painting? Read our post Blow Painting With Straws: Water Color Blowing Technique (+Printable) to make simple art with your child.
This is the easiest art activity for kids you can start with.
All you need is watercolors, straws, and paper.
These templates you see above are part of my Rainy Day Art & Craft Book which you can download HERE (no need to subscribe!).
Mix some water into the paints using a paintbrush and drop a few droplets of the paint by holding your brush on top of the paper (or just use a dropper to make it easy if you have one at hand).
Let your child blow at the paint on the paper.
The angle of the straw will determine the movement of color splashes.
If you keep the straw very straight and then blow in it, the splash will go in every direction and create a firework effect.
My son kept it slanting. This made a blown hair effect.
Here is what we created.
And here’s another one my son made.
You can create many things using this technique.
Use any paper if you don’t need the face templates.
I have seen fireworks, trees, germ art, monsters, volcano eruption, sun, peacock among other ideas.
Once your child’s artwork is complete, use it to make cards, wall art or just extend the artwork by creating drawing shapes or cutouts of the art.
If you liked our blow painting with straws artwork, you will enjoy our recent posts too.

I can’t seem to get to the printable for the blow painting with straws, this was such a cute idea and project. I can get into the printables library with the password but only see calendars and when I search for it I end up back at the block and can’t get the printable. Thanks!
