Apple Life Cycle Using Playdough

This activity requires:

  • Playdough (red, white, brown, green)
  • Playdough mat or any flat surface

We made playdough from scratch using this playdough recipe and you can watch the quick video of us making our playdough below.

And here’s a video of us making the life cycle.

You can explain the following steps in order as you make your apple’s life cycle.

Tree –> Blossom –> Apple –> Seed –> Cycle repeats

Apple LifeCycle Printable

Use the playdough mat printable with prompts or just do it on a flat surface or table as we did.

Work together to go through the stages of an apple’s life in order.

Focus Skills

In this activity you can focus on many skills at a time:

  • Sensory skill
  • Fine motor skills
  • Sequencing
  • Apple life cycle/science

Use this explanation of an apple’s life cycle during the activity. Omit or add information depending on your child’s level of understanding.

Some concepsts like pollination can be ommited for younger kids.

Stage 1: Tree

Apple trees blossom and grow white flowers in spring.

Stage 2: Blossom

Flowers blossom and insects and wind pollinate them. Then in fall their petals fall.

Stage 3: Apple

The flowers that were pollinated and then their petals fell in fall, their remaining parts turn into green apples. Most green apples turn red when ripe.

Stage 4: Seed

apple life cycle activity

When apples are ripe, we pick them and eat their red skin and white flesh. The seeds inside an apple are left behind. When we sow theseseeds in soil, then take sunshine, rain and a lot of time to become a tall apple tree.

Additional Apple Life Cycle Activity Ideas To Try
