One of my goals for the year was teaching Musa to read, and I’m using this long break the best I can.

I thought I’d need to sit down with him every day and I made a lengthy game plan but I never once thought we don’t have to sit down to learn, I can teach him, learning reading step by step, using movement games too!

When you set a firm goal, the universe starts helping you. I am so grateful for the teachers and mothers who share their amazing resources online and we found the perfect book full of an action plan for teaching reading.

It provides reading learning weekly games for 36 weeks i.e. one school year. All you need is upper and lowercase index cards and this book full of movement games.

I’ll tell you a bit more about the book and that for two days it’s available for more than 50% off with tons of bonuses.

But let’s start with a game we did to reinforce an alphabet matching game from the book. The game in the book said to hide ‘baby’ letters in the room and hand your child the ‘mommy’ letter cards to search the room and match them.

We repeated the matching concept with this lego alphabet matching game too.

The Alphabet Matching Game:

Everyone has this heap in their home. Take out two sets of single lego blocks.

Take a marker and write down lowercase and upper case alphabets on two different colored sets of blocks as shown in the image below.

Have your child practice the alphabet once.

Now ask them to break these towers, and mix all the blocks.

Reassemble them into one tower with matching alphabets.

We had a lot of fun with this.

My son felt a sense of pride every time he got his tower blocks right.

‘Teaching Reading Through Play’ eBook

Now the book I was talking about, it’s called ‘Teaching Reading Through Play’.

It is written by an MS in Elementary Reading & Literacy.

This book is full of games starting from the very basics. The book alone sells for $45 but during this COVID phase, Ultimate Bundles released a very useful bundle to help moms at home with school going kids and guess what, that book is included in the bundle.

Stay at Home Survival Bundle

The best part, the entire bundle with books on how to draw, screen time guide, my own 30 calendars for kids bundle and a ton of more resources only costs $19 for but for 2 days only.

If you want to grab this book and all the other books then I hope you get in before their timer runs out.
